Infobit: Since 1985, law schools have been graduating classes of new lawyers that are 40% or more female. Yet in 1996, only 14.2% of law firm partners were women, and in 2005, only 17.2% were women. (Note: this figure is for all partners; the number of equity partners is lower.) Source: Catalyst. At this rate of increase, women should make up half of law firm partners by the year 2115.

NOMINATION INSTRUCTIONS
2010 PAR FLEX SUCCESS AWARD
DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 5, 2010

The attorney nominee should meet the following criteria:

  • Is currently a partner in a PAR member law firm;

  • Has worked for a year or more as a partner on a schedule that is 80% or less of the minimum billable hours required of a partner working standard hours;

  • Can identify a client who is crucial to the attorney’s success to receive the award with the attorney at the 2010 PAR conference.

Both the attorney and a representative of the client must be available to attend the award luncheon on March 18, 2010 in San Francisco.

Instructions:

  1. The law firm nominee may be nominated by a PAR member firm or may self-nominate. NOTE: The award goes to an individual attorney and representative of a client — not to a law firm.

  2. Please email the nomination as a Word attachment (not a pdf) that is no more than three single-spaced pages, excluding the resume and include the following information:

    • The nominee’s name, firm name, contact information and whether he or she is an equity or non-equity partner;

    • The nominee’s current resume or equivalent (a link to information on a firm’s website is acceptable);

    • A description of the nominee’s reduced hours arrangement including the percentage of full time worked, length of time on the schedule, and how the hours are worked (i.e. shorter days, fewer days per week, annualized hours or other);

    • A specific discussion of the reasons why the nominee’s arrangement is considered successful;

    • The name and contact information of a representative of the client with whom the attorney proposes to share the award;

    • How the client contributed to making this a successful arrangement.

    • If not a self-nomination, your name, experience with and relationship to the nominee;

    All emailed nominations will be acknowledged within 24 hours. If you do not receive an acknowledgement, please call to make sure it was received.

  4. Finalists for the award may be interviewed by a PAR staff member.

  5. The winners of the award will be notified by February 24, 2010 and each will receive a free registration for the PAR Diversity & Flexibility Connection Conference which will take place March 18, 2010 at UC Hastings Law in San Francisco.
