Infobit: Since 1985, law schools have been graduating classes of new lawyers that are 40% or more female. Yet in 1996, only 14.2% of law firm partners were women, and in 2005, only 17.2% were women. (Note: this figure is for all partners; the number of equity partners is lower.) Source: Catalyst. At this rate of increase, women should make up half of law firm partners by the year 2115.

We have received comments about how well some firms' part-time programs are working.  These comments are often anonymous and cannot be verified; therefore, they should be viewed as unreliable and given no more weight than gossip.

Comments on the firm's part-time policy:

According to the NALP office survey, the firm does not allow flex-time but does have a formal part time policy. However, according the firm's website, "Drinker…has established part-time/flex-time policies that permit all lawyers (male and female) to work alternative schedules."

The offices vary in whether or not they have partners who have been elevated on a part-time basis. Associates have been elevated to partner status while on a part-time arrangement at the Philadelphia, Florham Park but not in Los Angeles, Washington, or San Francisco. The firm's website explains, "In general, the partnership operates with shared mutual objectives among partners. Although these objectives include a full commitment to the firm, we have part-time partners who are equally and fully committed to the firm's success and ideas even though they devote fewer hours to their professional lives."

Telecommuting is allowed. Job sharing is not. Part time attorneys must work a minimum of 60% of the full time hours.

According to the firm's "Top Reasons to Work Here" on Vault.com, "We continually revise our policies relating to family leave and reduced hours to provide workable and flexible alternatives for those whose life demands them."
