The
firm's NALP form indicates that the firm's "Reduced Workload
Policy allows attorneys to work a reduced schedule to manage family
care, pursue activities to enhance professional development or
stature in the legal community."
According
the firm's diversity profile on Vault.com,
part-time attorneys are eligible for promotion to counsel or partner
although the firm anticipates that the track to counsel or partnership
will be longer. The form indicates that since January 1, 2000,
the firm has promoted at least one part-time attorney to partnership;
the current NALP figures, however, do not reflect any current
part-time partners.
At
Akin Gump, associates who are on partnership track in their 6th
year of practice to be promoted to Counsel. According to NALP,
there are at least 15 part-time Counsel at the firm; however,

Counsel while working a reduced schedule.

is a two-tier partnership track, and according to the firm's Diversity
Profile on Vault.com, women make up 16.3 percent of Akin Gump's
partnership. Accoring to Vault.com, the women partners have strengthened
the firm's retention efforts through their leadership of the Women's
Professional Development Forum, which was established in 2001
as a quarterly educational and networking program for the firm's
women attorneys. Last year, the Forum sponsored a panel discussion
by several female general counsel on the topic of work-life balance.
The firm is a three-time recipient of the MCCA Thomas L. Sager
Award for its diversity efforts.
The
firm's overall attrition rate, however, was nearly 20 percent.
In 2004, 159 attorneys left the firm.
